Tyre pressure can appear as PSI at one service station and bar at another. The air in the tyre has not changed just because the display uses a different scale; only the unit has changed. The safe target still comes from the vehicle, not the conversion alone.

One worked case

For a recommended pressure of 35 PSI, 35 × 0.0689476 = 2.413 bar. In kilopascals that is 241.3 kPa. A gauge rounded to 2.4 bar is close, but record whether the reading was taken cold and whether the vehicle placard specifies a different front and rear pressure.

Pressure rises as the tyre warms, so manufacturers specify cold pressures measured before driving or after a long cool-down. The sidewall maximum is a limit for the tyre under stated conditions, not a target for everyday handling. Some vehicles have separate loaded and normal-load recommendations.

Do not round early when converting a fleet of vehicles, and do not use the tyre sidewall number as the car’s recommended setting. A slow leak, faulty gauge or mismatched valve can matter more than a small unit-conversion difference.

Check all four tyres and the spare where fitted. Front and rear targets may differ because axle loads differ, and the loaded-vehicle setting may be higher. A converted number is only correct if it is applied to the correct axle, load condition and cold-temperature procedure.
