“What MPG should I expect?” has no single answer because a city hatchback, a loaded SUV and a diesel van do different work. Good fuel economy is a comparison within a sensible group, not a magic number that applies to every vehicle.

MPG = miles travelled ÷ gallons used. For metric users, km/L = kilometres travelled ÷ litres used.

A note on measured versus quoted figures
Advertised specifications are valuable starting points, but measured results belong to the conditions in which they were collected. A vehicle’s test economy, battery range, kerb weight or power rating may use a defined procedure that is not the same as an owner’s commute.
